Homesteading is nothing new at Bowman’s Hardware in downtown Marshall, NC. The merchandise has been pretty consistent for decades. One of the few real hardware stores remaining in our area, Bowman’s front window shows off a brand new Mealmaster wood cook stove, beekeeping supplies, and crocks for fermenting.
Feel like churning some butter? Bowman’s has you covered! Along with all these supplies, Bowman’s has…(you guessed it!) hardware – plus paint, seeds, a key making machine, and more.
This is A.J. sitting by the wood stove. A. J. likes to dance. His uncle is in the photo following this post – on the far right hand side of the photo behind the mounds of corn.
They even have Sow True Seeds at Bowmans…but no Greasy Beans. According to A.J. you have to get those from somebody who saved them.
Bowman Hardware is located at 26 Main Street in downtown Marshall, NC.
If you make it out to downtown Marshall ~ after you explore Bowman’s, be sure to go to Penland’s Department Store. It is just a few doors up on Main Street. They have great overalls and Carhartt clothing, and some very-granny underwear that looks like it is from the 40’s. You’ll find books by local authors and by photographer Rob Amberg, handmade soap by Leslie Stilwell, and some really nice folks running the store.
Other places to see…Zuma’s Coffee (on the corner across from the courthouse), the pizza place across the street, Flow Gallery, Madison County Arts Council up the street, Lapland Bookstore down the street, and the artists at Marshall High Studios across the French Broad River Bridge…and everybody in between.
Once the market season starts ~ on Sundays you can attend the Tailgate Market on the Island, across the river near Marshall High Studios.
