The pleasure of eating good food is usually preceded by preparing that food. Just-picked farm foods will be packed with flavor and vitality. When you leave the tailgate market laden with wonderful farm finds ~ veggies, breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, and other goodies ~ you can relish the thought of eating your latest tailgate market finds with your family and friends. It might be as simple as washing off a carrot for your little one, or you might go all out and fix a feast to share.
My family likes naming all the local foods we can manage to fit into each meal and who they came from…our potatoes, Gaelan’s carrots, Laura’s lettuce, Annie Louise’s blueberries, Wayne’s eggs, Jamie’s bacon, Vanessa’s arugula, Steve’s shiitakis, fish from Frank, Cathy’s honey, Carol’s oyster mushrooms, pasta from the pasta lady…
Real good cooking comes from the heart, so just go for it. We all make some flops along the way. When something doesn’t turn out like you expected… just chalk that up to experience and hope you can convince your family to eat it anyway.
